Slytherin TBR – February 2019

51278379_981419952067095_7558693715661815808_nIt’s officially February and the month of love! I can’t wait to read all the contemporary that I can!

In February, I’m planning to participate in a couple of the TBR and Beyond group reads, the TBR and Beyond game, Reading Rivalry, Contemporary-a-thon, as well as my own challenges I set for myself.

For Reading Rivalry, each month there are ten criteria. This month the criteria is as follows:

  1. Author Highlight (Colleen Hoover, Jay Kristoff, or Sabaa Tahir)
  2. Love Triangle
  3. Book that you think should be a movie
  4. Book featuring a person of color
  5. A Satire
  6. A book recommended by a celebrity you admire
  7. A red/pink spine
  8. A book inspired by Asian mythology, legend, or folklore
  9. A book you wouldn’t normally pick up
  10. A book set in high school

For TBR and Beyond, the group reads are Geekerella by Ashley Poston, The Girl King by Mimi Yu, and White Stag by Kara Barbieri. The game this month is royalty themed and is similar to the princess saves the day game that happened in November.

Right now, I’m not sure if I’ll try for all the paths or just one, but I’m excited about this game!

Contemporary-a-thon is a week long readathon hosted by Chelsea, Julie, Natasha, and Melanie. It is happening from February 11th through February 17th.

CHALLENGES:
1. Read your most recently purchased or acquired contemporary
2. Read a contemporary with blurple (blue or purple) on the cover
3. Read a diverse contemporary keeping in mind its African heritage month and an own voices African author would be a great pick
4. Read a dark, taboo, or emotional book
5. Read a contemporary you meant to read in 2018 but didn’t get to
6. Read a contemporary in a non-traditional format (ebook, audio, graphic novel etc)
7. Read a contemporary with a picture on the spine (not a color or pattern but an image)

This month, one of the admins of TBR and Beyond chose books for me to read. She chose ones that are definitely a bit more out of my comfort zone so I’m excited to see how I like them. The five books she chose for me are:

  • Little Monsters by Kara Thomas
  • The Best Kind of Magic by Crystal Cestari
  • #Murdertrending by Gretchen McNeil
  • Royal Bastards by Andrew Shvarts
  • Ice Wolves by Amie Kaufman

For February, I again pulled three books from my jar. I somehow got lucky and the three that I picked out are all contemporary! Those three are:

  • Diplomatic Immunity by Brodi Ashton
  • Last Year’s Mistake by Gina Ciocca
  • Off the Ice by Julie Cross

For the rest of my TBR for February, I’ve got mostly contemporary along with a few fantasy books.

  • Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas
  • Famous in a Small Town by Emma Mills
  • Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry
  • Geekerella by Ashley Poston
  • No Love Allowed by Kate Evangelista
  • No Holding Back by Kate Evangelista
  • No Second Chances by Kate Evangelista
  • The Way You Make Me Feel by Maurene Goo
  • The Truth About Happily Ever After by Karole Cozzo
  • Love, Life, and the List by Kasie West
  • Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills
  • A Kiss in the Dark by Gina Ciocca
  • The Girl King by Mimi Yu

I hope to read several ARCs in February as well. The ones I hope to get to this month are:

  • The Deceivers by Kristen Simmons
  • The Waking Forest by Alyssa Wees
  • You’d Be Mine by Erin Hahn
  • Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim
  • When Summer Ends by Jessica Pennington

What’s on your TBR for February?
